On Wednesday 27th March 2019, Clive Montgomery Wicks, loving husband and father was called home to Christ at the age of 82.
Clive was born on September 8th 1936 in Karachi to Group Captain Frederick and Dorothy Wicks. His adventures started with memorable experiences in Alabama, USA having been evacuated in World War II. Afterwards, he returned to the UK and attended Prep School at St Peter’s before attending boarding school at Ratcliffe College.
Clive had an insatiable love of adventure. He served in the Parachute Engineers for several years before joining BAT where he worked in Nigeria, Kenya, and Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). He went on to a career in Conservation, rising up to be the Africa, Asia and South America Programme Manager for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) UK. In that role he visited and managed projects throughout the world, resulting in yet more countless amazing stories.
Clive’s domestic passions included gardening, supporting England rugby and long walks with his dogs! However, it was his love of fighting for the less fortunate around the world that set him on fire, such as the wonderful work of the Columbian fathers in Peru or the victims of mining in the Philippines.
Clive is survived by his loving wife Fiona and his five children (Chris, Marysa, Nick, John-Henry, and Elana), 3 grandsons (Henry, Sammy and Wilfred) and 7 granddaughters (Mimi, Hannah, Clara, Lucy, Sophie, Eowyn and Aoife), his brother (Stephen), sisters (Carolyn and Mary) as well as a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him for his warmth; gentleness and childlike pleasure of life endeared him to all he met.
